The Labyrinth of Life and the Illumination of Hope

To hope is to love, and to love is the same.

On this treacherous journey that is life, the mysteries that surround us ebb and flow as the rivers between. My journey circumvents these intricacies, leaping and hopping around without a clear definition or endgame in sight. My own humble vitality limits me in so many ways, defying my expectations each morning as I am raised by the sun, only to have my hopes and dreams wither and dry like an unattended rose.

The most invaluable possession in my arsenal is the abundance of good and kind friends, a good and loving Father and the ability to keep on moving, regardless of the situation. A social commentator once lamented that the irony of life is not the problems, pain and hurt that come alongside it — it’s the fact that we can envision a life without them. A world without suffering, misery, or even death. We have the power to imagine this world, and it makes living in our current stages all the more unbearable. As though our own physical ailments were not enough, our minds carry their own, all the while not offering us any remedies — an addition to our already long list of conundrums and afflictions.

Hope — an ever-fleeting word that resides in each of our souls. Hope is the propulsion we need in a world that demands our entire sacrifice in exchange for paltry sums. Hope inflates our hearts and gives us infinite desire to grow, reminding us of our own self-worth and the possibilities to reach, help and impact others. Hope is that stimulant, that seasoning that gives our entire life, it’s meaning and purpose more of that sizzling aroma. Hope is meant to be the cornerstone of our lives; without it, our own existence becomes unbearable. To hope is to love, and to love is the same. To care about others, to want more for oneself, and for others is to be selfless. The more that we exalt immaterial possessions, the better and younger we’ll feel and the better we’ll be as friends, parents, siblings, lovers and work-mates.
